Financing the College: How and Why
THE prior question is why should higher education in its present form be financed? The four year, so-called liberal arts, college is hardly a perfect instrument for man’s education, one no more powerful and relevant now in its sector than was the academic high school that served as a general model for school expansion in the 1890”s.The fact that the present “college” is not wholly apt should be the principal consideration in deciding how to finance further education. As with high schools, we could freeze present practice into permanence. This is an unhappy prospect.
