MOST AMERICANS know little about radon. Despite this fact, or perhaps because of it, America is falling into a radon panic. Spurred on by the media, Americans have grown increasingly fearful that mysterious but deadly gases lurk in their basements. Radon detectors of doubtful worth are peddled at corner drugstores, and books such as Linda Mason Hunter’s The Healthy Home teach us how to avoid radon’s terrors.
